Fasting to regenerate your body?

Have you noticed that when a child is sick, he doesn’t want to eat?

Maybe you’ve also noticed it if you have a pet: when they are sick, they just don’t eat. It’s a very natural response from the body.

When you fast, you give the digestive system a break. We used to do it naturally: fasting is a tool that has been used since ancient days. Our ancetors didn’t have food available at all times of the day, for which our body evolved to work without the necessity to eat constantly.

Have you heard that it is ideal to eat every 3 hours in order to keep a high metabolism?

This idea challenges the whole history of our evolution. We have less hours of fasting every time, and this is one of the reasons why cases of chronic diseases have increased so much.

Fasting has been used for thousands of years for spiritual, religious and health reasons. today science has proved that its benefits are quite varied:

  • It increases energy
  • It improves the working of the brain
  • It helps to lose weight
  • It reduces inflammation
  • It promotes longevity
  • It decreases sugar and food cravings
  • It increases physical performance
  • It helps regulate the balance of blood sugar
  • It improves hormonal balance

There are many cases of people showing excellent results when using fasting to reverse type 2 diabetes and to improve conditions such as obesity, cancer, polycystic ovaries, fatty liver, mitochondrial dysfunction, inability to lose weight, leaky gut or arthritis, among others. .

What happens in your body when you fast?

Digestion is a process that requires an incredible amount of energy. And our body tends to give it priority.

What would happen if our body didn’t give our digestion priority? what would happen if the food went bad inside our organism?

In order to avoid this, the body is engaged in digesting and postpones other activities: among them, the tasks of cleaning and regenerating. When you fast you give it a digestive rest in which your body naturally turns on signs of regeneration, cleansing, detoxification, balance and  reduces inflamamtion and can even correct cells that are receiving wrong signals.

This is thanks to a cellular process called autophagy: the healthy cells are cleaned, the diseased ones are eliminated, and thanks to this the tissues regenerate. That is why fasting is linked to longevity and helps to reverse various diseases.

How to give yourself that digestive rest without starving or having to use all your willpower?

An easy way to practice intermittent fasting is during the night. Our body is designed to fast during the hours of darkness.

The ideal is to spend at least 12 hours without eating, from dinner to breakfast the next day. For example, if you dine at 7 o’clock in the evening, have breakfast after 7 o’clock in the morning. It is key to have a light dinner and to let three hours pass before going to sleep.

if it’s very complicated for you, you can start with 8 or 10 hours and extend them slowly. If you drink two glasses of warm water when you wake up (you can add drops of lemon or some herbal tea), it will help you reduce your apetite.

During the hours of fasting, don’t eat any food. You can drink water or herbal tea, but don’t add milk or sugar.

When you manage to fast for 12 hours daily, try to reach 14 or even 16 hours in order to allow your body to perform the tasks of cleansing and regeneration. If what you want is to help your body find relieve for some condition, it might be convenient to have a more prolongated fasting or use the help of healing foods like Bone Broth. In my next video I will explain other types of fasting and how to use this wonderful tool.
